There's Always a Story

Okay so I just found out part of what happened to Kira Harley in "Modern Day Beauty" that makes her so cynical. I know, what do I mean I just found out? Well I didn't really know about it until it showed up on the paper so cut me some slack.
Her mom left when she was eight. More details you say? Gladly;

NEED TO KNOWS: Okay so she's got a twisted ankle and she just stormed out of the cafeteria. She's making an effort not to appear to be limping and she refuses to use a crutch.

"It's swollen," East stated from my left.
Startled, I looked over at him and let my pant leg drop, getting to my feet as quickly as possible. "Thanks for the observation," I retorted sarcastically, leaning casually against the lockers in an attempt to make it look like everything was fine.
"It's never going to heal if you keep walking on it," he said flatly, looking me in the eye.
I hated that look at once; it was like he could see straight through me, and I didn't want anyone to see that. In response, my body stiffened, as if trying to hide the parts of me best left undisturbed. "It doesn't need to heal, there's nothing wrong with it."
"Look," he told me, irritation flickering across his face as he started to walk towards me. "I'm sure if you ask, the nurse has a crutch or something."
"I don't need one," I snapped, straightening from the row of lockers. If I didn't put any weight on my right ankle, he didn't notice...I don't think. "I'm perfectly fine. I don't need any help."
"If you'd stop being so stubborn--" he began angrily, but I didn't hear the rest, I didn't even see him.

"If you'd stop being so stubborn, you'd see that this is for the best, Kira," Mom informed me coolly.
But I didn't know how to stop. I didn't want to. "I don't need you," I told her, my voice wavering as my eight year old eyes filled with unshedable tears. "I don't need you so just go!"
"You're too young," she informed me. "You just don't understand where I'm coming from."
I understood where she was going though. I may not have known exactly why, but I knew where she was going. She was going away from me. She was leaving me. I refused to shed those tears and I refused to beg. If she didn't want me, I didn't need her. "Just go," I whispered, looking away.
"Kira," she tried gently.
"Leave!" I shouted, turning hardened blue eyes on her. "I don't need you."

"Kira!" East snapped, shaking me. I blinked, and then my eyes focused and hardened. "Were you even listening to me?"
"I don't need help from anyone," I snapped, jerking away. Gritting my teeth, I suffered the pain and hurried away.

So it has to do with her mother, see? I was thinking her father since she seems to have the issues with guys, but I've got some tricks up my hoodie sleeves. Toodle-oo!

Because They're Not Dead Yet

So I've decided to do what every author has done once in their writing career; I've decided to re-tell the classics. Here's what I've got so far;

**Please note: First is the classic's title, then mine. Next line, main characters. Third is High School name, then the summary**

Beauty and the Beast: Modern Day Beauty
Kira Harley and Blake East
Rose High School

Kira's a beauty with a tough past and a cynical outlook on life. With little faith in the male population, she has no problem taking an immediate dislike to Blake East. Modern beauties aren't as soft hearted as they used to be.

Sleeping Beauty: Beauty Sleep
Aurora Night and Luke Silver
Shlafen High School

Aurora Night has lived her life in a daze. She is more than willing to sleep her life away, and is cheerily doing just that until Luke Silver sounds the alarm. Looks like her beauty sleep is over.

Little Mermaid: Head Over Tail
Ariel Fish and Derron Prince
N/A

The strangest thing happened to curious Ariel, youngest in a family of eight. She's sprouted a tail. Once the shock's worn off, she is eager to explore the murky depths of the sea. Easily accepting her own whacked out curse, she is not so willing to accept that of Derron Prince's.

Cinderella: Cinders
Ashley (Ash) Wells and Aaron Charmont
Drusilla High School

Ashley has had it rough. Both parents have died, leaving her with a very indifferent step-mom. She's watched everything she's ever loved burn to the ground and when everything's gone, only cinders are left. This modern Cinderella doesn't need the shoe to fit, she's swapped out the glass slippers for combat boots, and she is fighting to lose the guy with her heart.

Snow White: White as Snow
Chastity Snow and Carter Hale
Queen's Academy for Misbehaved Teens

Her step-mother chased her away from the only living family member she has left and left her to fend for herself in a boarding school for the disobedient. It takes less than a day for her troubled classmates to see she doesn't belong. This innocent beauty just doesn't have a bad bone in her body, and they don't have a good one.

So what do you think? Comments? Questions? Feel free.

Modern Day Beauty

So I changed the title from 'When Beauty Met Beast' to 'Modern Day Beauty'. It sounds better don't you agree? Anyway, here's the prologue for you:

Prologue:
Fairy Tale Versus Reality

‘Beauty and the Beast,’ that old fairy tale of a selfish prince turned into the beast he is and a woman, beautiful inside and out, who falls in love with him, breaking the curse, making him a better man, and living happily ever after. How is that even remotely realistic?
I’m not trying to be a pessimist here, and I’m not saying I’m not happy for Belle and ‘His Highness’, but the facts are simple. A jerk will always be a jerk, and you can’t change them. Maybe the ‘beauty’ will still fall in love, but in real life, the beast will always be a beast. Take Blake East for example; bad ass of Rose High School, and the biggest heartbreak in the state of New York. Blake, the most sought after guy—besides his best friend Todd Hunch—in school, the most selfish, and the biggest jerk. Blake dated like any true egotistical, over-confident moron, and broke the heart of any girl foolish enough to start thinking things were serious.
Blake East was the beast that would always be a beast. Not even the purest beauty could change a guy who saw no need to change himself. After all, the first step to changing a person is to get that person to want to change. A guy who sees nothing wrong with himself is never going to take that first step.

Mr. Hendrics was a unique guy. If you didn’t love him, you hated him, and if you didn’t care either way then you’d obviously never met him. I loved him…despite the fact that he taught government. I would still love him if he hadn’t done the one thing that had brought on the worst set of events of my life…at least so far.
Let’s start at the beginning, shall we? Back at the last half of fifth period, the third to last period of the day. Let’s start my story in government, and I’ll tell you just what good old Mr. Hendrics got me into:
